About us
A small backstory of how we all started.
Once upon a time in X Block...
It was 2017. Steven Rodkiss, a Digital Technologies teacher, was doing a routine cleanup of X Block back then.
Out of curiosity, he found something in the form of a wooden shield with lots of inscriptions on the many metal ornaments covering it, left in one of the cupboards to catch dust. Little did he know that this slab of shield-shaped wood was actually the trophy to the Canterbury Schools Programming Contest, a programming contest that had been forgotten for almost 10 years at the time.
Mr. Rodkiss carefully dusted off the trophy, knowing just how much potential it could serve to the many Digital Technologies students at Burnside, both present and future.
He began to organize that very contest which had been forgotten by programming society for so long, now that he had 'discovered' the trophy's past life and present purpose. Thanks to this, Programming Club was born later that year as a place for students who embrace their passion for programming to connect with each other and compete in contests to dominate the competitive programming landscape.
Nowadays, Programming Club has grown to a community of about 30 Burnside students who embrace their passion for programming, ready to share knowledge and compete in contests.
